About Asurgo
What is Asurgo?
Asurgo is an independent, licensed life insurance brokerage. We shop over 25 top-rated carriers to find the best coverage and rate for your family. We are not tied to any single insurance company, which means we work for you, not for a carrier.
Is Asurgo a real, licensed company?
Yes. Asurgo is fully licensed to sell life insurance in all 50 U.S. states. Every specialist on our team holds a valid state insurance license. We have served over 1,500 families and written more than $30 million in coverage.
How is Asurgo different from other insurance companies?
Most agents work for one insurance company and can only sell that company's products. Asurgo is independent, meaning we compare policies from 25+ carriers to find the best fit for you. We have no incentive to push one company over another.
Does Asurgo charge a fee for its services?
No. There is no fee to get a quote, compare options, or work with one of our specialists. Asurgo is compensated by the insurance carrier when you purchase a policy, at no additional cost to you.
Coverage
Do I need a medical exam to get life insurance?
Not always. Final expense insurance, many mortgage protection plans, and some term life products do not require a medical exam. A brief health questionnaire is usually all that is needed. Larger policies may require traditional underwriting.
How fast can I get coverage?
With no-exam products, same-day approval is common. Many policies are active within 24 hours. Traditional underwritten policies typically take 2 to 6 weeks.
What ages do you cover?
Asurgo serves clients from age 0 to 85, depending on the product. Final expense insurance is available for ages 45 to 85. Term life and whole life products are available for younger applicants as well.
What types of life insurance does Asurgo offer?
We offer final expense whole life, mortgage protection, term life, whole life, indexed universal life (IUL), and annuities. Our specialists will help you determine which type fits your needs and budget.
Can I get life insurance if I have health problems?
Yes, in most cases. We work with carriers who specialize in covering people with diabetes, heart disease, COPD, and other common conditions. Some plans are guaranteed issue, meaning no health questions are asked and no one is turned down.
What is the difference between term and whole life insurance?
Term life covers you for a set period (10 to 30 years) at a lower monthly cost. Whole life covers you permanently, never expires, and builds cash value over time. The right choice depends on your goals, age, and budget.

Cost
How much does life insurance cost?
It depends on your age, health, coverage amount, and policy type. Many clients pay between $30 and $100 per month. The younger and healthier you are when you apply, the lower your rate will be.
Are my rates locked in?
On whole life products (including final expense), yes. Your rate is locked the day you apply and never increases. Term life rates are locked for the length of the term (10, 20, or 30 years).
What if I cannot afford a large policy?
That is completely okay. Final expense policies start as low as $5,000 in coverage for as little as $20 to $30 per month. Our job is to find the best coverage that fits your budget, not to sell you more than you need.
Do rates increase as I get older?
Once your policy is in place, your rate stays the same for the life of the policy (whole life) or the length of your term (term life). However, the longer you wait to apply, the higher your starting rate will be. Applying sooner locks in a lower rate.
Claims & Benefits
How does my family file a claim?
Your beneficiary contacts the insurance carrier directly with a copy of the death certificate. Most carriers pay the benefit within 30 to 60 days. Asurgo can also help guide your family through the process.
Is the life insurance death benefit taxable?
In most cases, no. Life insurance death benefits paid to individual beneficiaries are generally income-tax-free under IRS guidelines. Your beneficiary receives the full amount.
Can my beneficiary use the death benefit for anything?
Yes. The death benefit is paid in cash with no restrictions. Your beneficiary can use it for funeral costs, mortgage payments, debt, living expenses, or any other purpose.
What happens if I miss a premium payment?
Most policies have a grace period of 30 to 31 days. Some permanent policies can use accumulated cash value to cover missed premiums. Contact your carrier or Asurgo if you are at risk of lapsing.
The Process
How does the quoting process work?
You fill out a short form or give us a call. A licensed specialist will ask a few questions about your needs, compare rates from 25+ carriers, and present you with the best options. There is no obligation at any point.
Will someone call me?
Yes. After you submit a quote request, one of our licensed specialists will call you to discuss your options. We typically reach out the same day during business hours.
Can I do everything over the phone?
Yes. The entire process, from quote to application to approval, can be completed over the phone. No in-person meetings are required.
How long does it take to get a quote?
A quote typically takes about 5 minutes. Your specialist will compare options from multiple carriers and present you with the best rate for your situation.
Can I cancel my policy if I change my mind?
Yes. Most policies come with a free-look period (typically 10 to 30 days depending on your state) during which you can cancel for a full refund. After that, you can cancel at any time with no penalty, though refund terms vary.
