The Product

What Is Mutual of Omaha Term Life Express?

Term Life Express is Mutual of Omaha's no-exam term life product. It's issued by United of Omaha Life Insurance Company, a Mutual of Omaha subsidiary. It's for people who want term coverage without a full medical exam.

Instead of blood work or a doctor visit, you answer health questions on the application. The industry calls this simplified issue. It's faster than fully underwritten products, but the carrier still screens for health conditions.

Term Life Express offers two risk classes: Standard Non-Tobacco and Standard Tobacco. There are no preferred tiers. Marijuana use is allowed at non-tobacco rates.

The Process

How Simplified-Issue Term Life Works

Simplified-issue term life skips the parts of underwriting that take the longest: no blood draw, no urine sample, no paramedical exam. You answer health questions during the application. The carrier may also run electronic checks on your prescription history and MIB records.

The questions cover serious conditions: cancer history, heart disease, stroke, COPD, organ transplants, and others. If your health clears the questionnaire, you're approved. If it doesn't, you're declined for that product. Term Life Express has no graded or modified tier like Mutual of Omaha Living Promise does. You qualify or you don't.

  • You've been declined for a health condition like COPD, heart disease, cancer history, or stroke (Express has a long decline list)

The Trade-Off

The Honest Trade-Off: What Express Costs You

Simplified-issue term costs more per dollar of coverage than fully underwritten term. That's the trade: you're paying for speed and the ability to skip the exam.

Term Life Express also has a strict decline list. COPD, heart disease, cancer history, and stroke history are automatic declines. A fully underwritten product might still accept the same applicant with a table rating. Express doesn't offer table ratings.

The coverage cap is lower too. Express maxes out at $550,000 for ages 18 to 50 and drops from there. Fully underwritten products from carriers on our panel go up to $10 million.
